Faculty Relocation Service
The Faculty Relocation Service (FRS) assists prospective and recently appointed faculty members on many aspects of relocating to the Greater Toronto Area (GTA). The goal of our service is to ensure a smooth transition to life at the University of Toronto for incoming faculty members.
We support prospective and recently appointed tenure and tenure-stream faculty, continuing teaching stream faculty, and permanent-status stream librarians from outside the GTA with relocating to Toronto and the surrounding areas. Our services are available to faculty members beginning at any of U of T’s three campuses.
Services are available in-person or virtually. We are located at 215 Huron St, 6th floor, Suite 603 while the Koffler Centre is undergoing renovations.
The Faculty Relocation Service website provides information on a range of topics including moving, housing, navigating health care, family-related topics, and more.
A key component of FRS’s service is a meeting with candidates during their campus interview visits. In these confidential appointments, a candidate can ask questions on topics such as moving, housing, banking, health care, child care, schooling, and family leave policies. The 25-minute virtual or in-person appointments (at 215 Huron, 6th floor) include information on:
- immigration, health care and benefits
- housing, real estate, mortgages, moving and banking
- supports available for partner job searches
- parental leave policies and benefits, child care, and schools
- supports available for caring for family members, including older family members
- communities within the University and/or within the GTA including ethnocultural, faith, and 2SLGBTQ+
Departments and faculties can request an appointment for a candidate during a campus visit, by emailing faculty.support@utoronto.ca with:
- the name of the position
- type of position (i.e. tenure and tenure-stream, continuing teaching stream, or permanent-status stream librarian)
- the name of the candidate
- type of appointment (i.e. in-person or virtual)
- and the requested date(s) and times for the 25-minute appointment.
If you have any questions, please do not hesitate to reach out to faculty.support@utoronto.ca. Potential faculty members are invited to contact us whether you are being interviewed or have a letter of offer. Faculty members who recently started at U of T are also welcome to stay connected and ask questions. We, alongside your department and faculty, are here to support you in your transition to U of T and the GTA!
