How to Apply for your Social Insurance Number (SIN)

If you are a Canadian citizen, a permanent resident or a temporary resident, you need a SIN to work in Canada or to receive benefits and services from government programs. Apply for a SIN online as soon as possible after arrival. Once you receive your SIN, provide the information to your Business Officer. It is important to protect your SIN to protect yourself against fraud and identity theft. Never send your SIN by email.
